Luc Brust – Percussions

Luc made his Rain debut in August of 2006, shortly after graduating from Wichita State University with degrees in Percussion Performance and Jazz Studies. During his education at WSU, Luc studied all aspects of percussion including drum set, mallet instruments (vibraphone, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, etc…), toys (orchestral tambourine, triangle, cymbals), timpani, Latin percussion, Brazilian percussion, African Percussion, and steel drums (steel pans) from some of the most qualified musicians in the world including but not limited to Dr. J.C. Combs,  renowned percussionist and educator, Jerry Scholl, principal timpanist with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra (http://www.wso.org/), and Michael Spiro (http://www.michaelspiro.com/ ), world-renowned Afro-Cuban percussionist and instructor.

Aside from his intensive percussion training, Luc found a love for jazz and began examining the world of jazz and swing with Craig  Owens, guitar/jazz instructor at Wichita State and founder of the Bodo Ensemble (http://www.bodoensemble.com/). Shortly thereafter, Luc began playing vibraphone with the Bodo ensemble on occasion. Luc also plays drums for Natoma (http://natomajazz.blogspot.com/), a jazz fusion group performing everything from George Gershwin to George Benson, percussion for Broken (http://www.brokentheband.net), and lead pan for The Calyptones, a steel pan quartet.

Other than playing for steady bands, Luc works for two different churches as a drummer and pianist as well as working as a freelance drummer/percussionist, studio musician, a substitute with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra (http://www.wso.org/), and educator. Four days a week, Luc serves as primary drum instructor at Damm Music Center (http://www.dammmusic.com/) teaching everything from snare drum, to drum set, to Afro-Cuban percussion.

Luc is extremely excited about being involved with such a wonderful group of people who love music as much as he does. All the other Rain members agree that it’s great to have an energetic, talented young guy in the group. But how does Luc like it?  “It’s cool to play  with these old guys. It leaves all the young babes for me!”
